Flick-ing Off

I read this article from The Star online

Earth Hour is a mere publicity stunt

I READ with amazement and irony the efforts of WWF Malaysia to latch on to the Earth Hour event and all the celebrities, media and corporations that have come up in support.

It is amazing that people are so easily taken in by a mere publicity stunt that fails at the very essence. Turning off our lights for one hour on one designated day of the year to save our planet surely is a PR event at best.

It shames the thousands of devoted people, government bodies, scientists and environmentalists that have for years been working on finding real solutions to address this global concern. Malaysians should see past this gimmick by international NGOs and start changing their lifestyles. Surely we can be more proactive and not be fed by an agenda of international bodies.

Why don’t we implement power conservation programmes, ride public transport on certain days in a month, car pool, etc?

It is also ironic that the organiser, WWF Malaysia, up until very recently, did not even have a climate change programme to begin with when all others (even local groups and individuals) have been persistent in their pleas for Malaysians to take action.

Remember, our leaders signed the Kyoto Protocol and there has been concerted movement towards reaching solutions. Please let us all be enlightened and move away from celebrations and gimmicks.

When I read this, I was shocked as this was coming out from a Malaysian. Well, not really considering how..... anywzzz, but reaally.. gosh.. *sighs* However, each of us are entitled to our own opinion so.. fine.. And I'm sorry that I couldnt agree with his statement. My mind's always as stubborn.. Hee.. I coudnt help but ... ok, nywz, this is what I hafta say about his "comments". I beg to differ but I actually support this event as this goes to show how united and caring people can be when it comes to saving the world even if it's just a "little" thing . Dont you know it by now that we can make a difference even if it's a just little tiny thing?? Doesnt tiny little thing is better than not doing NOTHING at all??

Goshh.. Turning off ur light does make a difference if the whole world are actually care enough to do it or join in. Imagine how much difference does that make? Yes, it's not enough to actually help the earth but it's a start. And to see how many people do care to participate in this event is simply amazing. Dont think for a sec whether they turn off their lights or not. Just think how many people does care or even took notice about this event. I mean, without the media or the so-called "publicity stunt", do people even bother to actually notice it?

The whole point is actually to inform about this event and that some people do care about the earth and just a tiny little thing does make a difference and that if all of us does have
THE heart AND THE brain to care or think, thus it's enough. I think the earth would be grateful enough that us, the cold heartless humans are giving "him/her" a break for just an hour. And I think the WWF is doing a great job for the effort as no other people would care enough to actually do it. And to those who think otherwise, I'd say what a shalow minded u are. But then, u are welcome to change ur mind tho'. There's always room for people like u. =)) And to implement programs takes the money and time to do it. Turning off the lights for an hour for one day of the year is simple. No time and money wasted. Like I said, it's a start. When people realizes that the earth is really important to them, those programs will be very much helpful. For the time being, it's better to create awareness first. And oh.. just so u know.. Earth Hour have been goin on for years. It's just that people were never really bother to notice.

Ok ok.. I'll stop now. Haha. I was merely highlighting that I too, am in favour on this event. So, to those who thinks that it's only a publicity stunt, well.. Boohoo to u! Regardless of what u might say, I'm joining and in favour for this event!

Counting down Earth Hour

Happy Earth Hour everyone~!
